When industry meets quality craftsmanship, a success story is born here. It was in 1975 when the story of Maxalto began and was intertwined with the work of the architects Afra and Tobia Scarpa who signed not only all the collections up to 1992 but also the current factory.
The decoration of the house, created by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, quickly became a point of reference in Italian design. A collection of prestigious wooden furniture that is completely “made in Italy“.
The decision to use wood proved to be counterproductive and very bold. Tobia Scarpa gave the stamp to the whole collection: objects made of quality materials, such as wood, controlled “piece by piece” and finished by skilful manual work. The search for iconic objects is combined with the desire to create a modern style environment. A style that unites the geometric simplification of forms with a very refined, almost hidden, quality of execution.
Contemporary classic furniture, the result of the encounter between the most sophisticated craftsmanship and the most advanced technology
Its products mainly emphasize harmony and balance: between iconic pieces and a re-readable version of the modern. The collection, born in 1975 and currently coordinated by Antonio Citterio, expresses an unmistakable style and sophisticated settings.
Research into modern furniture focuses on forms that recall the romanticism of French design between the two wars, a period in which the functionality of the modern salons created by Le Corbusier and Marcel Breuer was enriched by great Art Deco interior designers such as Adnet, Mallet-Stevens and Jean Michel Frank.
The objective is clear: to harmonise shapes and materials to create a series of objects integrated into a coherent whole. More than iconic objects, these are now real settings. Bookcases, drawers, chairs and armchairs: for each element the quality of the hand-made detail is taken care of to the maximum, preferring the use of wood.
